- The application for a parking permit must be made to the municipality where the applicant is registered or resides. The assessment of the application is made by the municipality's administrator.
- The decision-making authority is the technical committee. In Strömstad municipality, the street department makes decisions on parking permits for people with mobility impairments on delegation from technical board.
- A parking permit is valid for a maximum of five years.You must then make a new application, as the permit is not automatically renewed. The new examination then takes place regard to the previous examination.

- A person with mental health problems, such as phobias, can only receive a permit if the mental health problems limit the ability to move. Certificate must be issued by a doctor with specialist in psychiatry.
- Even in some other cases, a specialist opinion or walking test may be required.
- A parking permit for you with mobility impairments is not a social benefit.
In this context, functional variation always refers to the ability to move.

- You may park for a maximum of 24 hours where parking according to a local traffic regulation is permitted for more than 3 hours but less than 24 hours. You may park for a maximum of 3 hours on a street designated as a pedestrian street unless there are other local traffic regulations regarding parking on the street.
- You may park in parking spaces reserved by local traffic regulations for disabled persons with a parking permit. You must then follow the rules for longest parking that apply.
- You may also park in other municipalities in Sweden, but then according to the rules that apply to each municipality. Some municipalities charge a parking fee, in others is free
- You can also park with the permit in most countries within the EEA. But first contact the embassy of the country you are going to to find out more about what applies there
- On land- unless the owner allows it.
- In places for a specific purpose,for example turning area, loading area or taxi area.
- On site designated for certain road user group.
- On site designated for certain type of vehicle,for example bus.
- In a pedestrian area(where parking is only permitted in a specially arranged parking space).
- On the main road,unless there are other local traffic regulations regarding parking on the street.
In Strömstad municipality, it is free of charge for you with a permit to park in municipal parking lots. However, not all municipalities have free parking.
